The day kicked off with a warm welcome from CFAR Director, Dr. Susan Cu-Uvin, alongside the CFAR Developmental Core Co-Directors, Dr. Katie Biello, Dr. Rahm Gummuluru, and Dr. Benjamin Linas. This was followed by a powerful opening keynote address from Dr. Ingrid T. Katz and Dr. Mike Reid, who shared innovative approaches to leveraging behavioral science and AI in the global HIV response.
The research presentations highlighted cutting-edge studies in HIV care and prevention. Dr. Miriam Harris explored the adaptation of PEP and PrEP for women who inject drugs and engage in sex work, while Dr. Danielle Haley examined HIV care providers' engagement with cannabis use among their HIV-positive patients. Dr. Trisha Arnold presented strategies for improving PrEP use among Black cisgender women in Mississippi, and Dr. Gemmae Fix offered insights into the implementation of patient-centered care for individuals with HIV.
A highlight of the afternoon session was the CFAR Community Engaged Research Council (C-CERC) Award Presentation, where several distinguished individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to community health. Awards were presented to Dr. Kaku So-Armah, Samantha Johnson, Dr. Archana Asundi, and Dr. Arryn Guy, celebrating their pivotal roles in advancing HIV research and care.
The forum wrapped up with a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Jack Rusley on the barriers and facilitators to parental support of PrEP use among adolescents, further enriching the conversations around HIV prevention.
Beyond the presentations, the forum also provided ample opportunity for networking, with attendees sharing ideas and forging new collaborations. After the event, some guests gathered at Fuller's Pub to continue their conversations, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere that extended the productive discussions of the day into a memorable evening.
