Rob Quinn
Biography
During my twenty-five-year journey as a long-term survivor, not only living and aging with HIV/AIDS, but also thriving, I have evolved from being an unheard voice to a voice for the unheard. I am connected to the HIV community on local, state, and national levels. Through consumer engagement activities, I currently advise the City of Boston and state health departments on addressing HIV-/+ consumer concerns and supporting others through online platforms @openlypoz. I work to advance greater understanding and prioritization of the experiences and needs of long-term survivors and older adults living with HIV.
I also serve as Resource Faculty for the New England AID Education Training Center, was an HIV 50+ Strong & Healthy Scholar for the 2018 United States Conference On AIDS, and was named to the 2018 POZ 100–people 50 and Over with HIV: Making a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
I have participated in several clinical trials which focus on HIV/AIDS care/treatment and one on HIV-associated cardiomyopathy. I have firsthand experience with research protocols, studies setup, eligibility criteria, informed consent, requirements, and the importance of commitment from a participant perspective.
I participate in research as a way to play a more active role in my own health care, help others, and contribute to moving science forward. I also seek out providers for my own healthcare team who have interest in research.
