
Mollie Monnig, PhD
Biography
Dr. Mollie A. Monnig is Associate Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University. Dr. Monnig completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of New Mexico and clinical internship at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital. After postdoctoral fellowship at Brown's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies, Dr. Monnig received an NIAAA Career Development Award in 2016. Her research examines brain-behavior relationships in the context of alcohol use, chronic disease, and aging. Dr. Monnig's recent and current projects include: an MRI study of the effects of alcohol on the gut-brain axis in healthy individuals and people living with HIV infection; an experimental comparison of immune response to alcohol in light and heavy drinkers; an alcohol administration study to examine effects of alcohol on "inflammaging" markers in healthy older adults; and an R01 whole-genome sequencing study to investigate alcohol effects on the gut microbiota in people living with HIV. Dr. Monnig is Director for Research Capacity for Brown's COBRE Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE).
