Research Interests behavioral interventions, community-engaged research, health disparities and health equity, HIV, LGBTQ+, people who use drugs, PrEP pre-exposure prophylaxis, substance use, harm reduction

Biography

Katie Biello, PhD, is Professor and Chair of Epidemiology at Brown University School of Public Health, and Affiliated Faculty at the Fenway Institute at Fenway Health. Her research focuses on both the epidemiology of HIV and development and testing of behavioral interventions to effectively prevent and treat HIV among gay and bisexual men, transgender women, those who use substances and those engaged in sex work. This research is done using a variety of study designs, including qualitative approaches, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials, and in close collaboration with communities. She has been actively involved with the Providence/Boston CFAR for over 10 years, first as a developmental awardee, and then as a mentor for new ESIs through the Substance Use Research Core, and finally as co-Director of the Developmental Core.
