Alysse Wurcel
Biography
Alysse G. Wurcel, MD, MS is a nationally recognized clinician investigator with over 20 years of expertise in infectious diseases and experience working with people with HIV, people who are incarcerated, and people who use drugs. She joined the faculty of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in October 2024 as an Associate Professor and clinician investigator in the Section of General Internal Medicine. Additionally, she provides patient care at Boston Medical Center’s Section of Infectious Diseases. She provides patient care in the Section of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Wurcel received her MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and completed residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. After completing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases (ID), she graduated with a master’s degree in clinical and transitional science from Tufts University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 2014. Dr. Wurcel’s research portfolio is characterized by a commitment to health equity, development of systems-based strategies to improve healthcare, and engagement of a broad array of stakeholders. She is Multiple Principal Investigator on three NIH/ AHQR R-level grants using implementation science methods. She has published over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts advancing the science of health services research and carceral health care.
